The commercial ePacket shipping service from the USPS allows e-commerce businesses to efficiently ship lightweight, low-value merchandise internationally to over 24 countries around the world. As a postal qualified wholesaler, OSM Worldwide is one of only a few USPS partners to offer the commercial ePacket service to online retailers.

The ePacket service is ideal for e-commerce retailers looking for a pain-free, low-cost solution for international deliveries. Packages are limited to 4.4lbs (2kg) and a value of less than $400 and are sent as commercial letter-post packets. Benefits of ePacket shipping include:

  • Free returns on any undeliverable items
  • Door-to-door tracking
  • Postal customs clearance with any duties and taxes paid by recipient of the shipment
  • A 4-9 day overseas shipping time

When shipping high volumes, keeping track of all those parcels can be a real chore, especially when customs, foreign postal services, and other complications come into play. Using ePackets customers have peace of mind with:

  • Delivery confirmation and tracking through the usps.com website
  • Acceptance scans by USPS and delivery scans by foreign post with a 90% delivery scan rate
  • Induction sites in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, with shipping to 14 participating countries including Australia, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

In addition to being fully trackable, all ePacket shipments get a unique label and barcode IDs with the LX item prefix, as well as electronic manifesting and labeling performed by OSM Worldwide.

This means that you can track any item that you send out via the ePacket Service from your door to your customer's. It also leads to simpler bookkeeping, and fewer headaches when worrying about customs, or dealing with the international post.

 What Is ePacket delivery?

ePacket delivery is an agreement between the US Postal Service and the Hongkong Post to boost growth in e-commerce. It allows for faster ePacket delivery of lightweight products coming from China and Hong Kong to the US. Merchants can send small packages weighing up to 2 kg (4.4 lbs).

Note that the value of the package also needs to be less than $400.

This new method of shipping offers a variety of benefits to buyers, including:

  • Door-to-door ePacket tracking
  • Postal customs clearance on any duties or taxes paid by the recipient

ePacket was originally created specifically for e-commerce purchases. The goal was to allow customers in the United States to have access to affordable shipping costs when ordering from China. Then, ePacket became so successful within the US that they’ve now expanded into numerous countries around the world. The list of countries that have access to ePacket is constantly growing.

Keep in mind that it’s not possible to offer free shipping on all products. If the package is under 24″ x 36″ and less than 2kg it can qualify for ePacket shipping. Notably, this type of ePacket delivery method must be shipped from either China or Hong Kong. Thus, if certain AliExpress vendors have products shipping within the US, customers cannot benefit from ePacket shipping in that specific case.
